TRAINING IN SCIENCE LABORATORY (fourth cohort-2021-2022)

INVITATION TO NEW APPLICANTS AND REPEATERS
New applicants MAY still be considered ONLY IF they are not from Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu (we already have many). Minimum requirement remains an MSCE certificate with at passes in three science subjects at least one of which must be a credit pass. Use same contact details for any enquiries. This is a special arrangement, hence you will pay application fee only when your application is successful and when you report for classes. Those who reserved a place during the previous cohort should also send a letter for confirmation, otherwise their spaces will be filled.
Skills Development Initiative will again use Malawi College of Health Sciences-Zomba Campus for these training sessions. Malawi College of Health Sciences-Zomba Campus is located close to Zomba Central Hospital and Opposite Zomba Works Training Centre. You are advised to arrive in Zomba by 17th October 2021 for you to have time to settle down at your accommodation venue before commencement of classes on the next day. A timetable for the first week shall be made available to you on the first day of classes durin~ orientation. Zomba in general is a safe city. But some unforeseen circumstances are not unexpected. You are therefore advised to avoid arriving at night. As is usually our tradition, you are also advised to communicate to any our official numbers in the case of any problems
There are many options for accommodation in Zomba. However we do not recommend our students to find accommodation which is substandard or whose security is compromised. Therefore you are advised to contact any of our officials to help you with accommodation options not later than 10th October, 2021.
FEES AND REGISTRATION
You will be required to register during the first week using your original certificate (MSCE) and proof of payment of at least half (MK120, 000) of the total tuition fees. Please present the ORIGINAL deposit slip for you to receive the registration form. Registration will cover a period of ONE week.
You are expected to have your own labcoat (acid resistant) and safety goggles before commencement of using the laboratories. This will start from the end of the month of November. In order to maintain uniformity and quality, you will therefore be required to buy these 2 items at a cost ofK15, OOO.OO.Youwill need to use them during attachment segment. You will also need a shoe that covers the whole foot. Other safety materials will be provided during laboratory operations.
Note that due to covid-19 and anticipated weather, duration of contact hours per day will be reduced. However, we shall ensure that you have all the needed electronic teaching notes and hard copies in study groups. Where possible, other modes of teaching shall also be encouraged to increase interaction between lecturers and students out of class time: Scientific calculators are also recommended.
Attachment of students to various laboratories across the country will start in April, after completion and passing of examinations. The attachment will be for a period of 3 – 4 months .
